I'll see Zoidberg his fence project and raise him a couple of buttresses.

The fence is thirty years old and this procrastination project will add at least another ten years t o it s life.

Naturally, we installed the butt resses on the neighbor's side of the fence... Here, too, as in Zoidberg's case, Neighbor paid all costs.

You know they still make fences, right?

Are those sisal panels?

That is brilliant - I am all about that around my house. Just got a clean bill of health on my ozone depleting HVAC installed during Reagan’s first term, so I can kick that can down the road at least another season. Fix and make do, conserve cash, avoid debt, that’s my philosophy.

I may have to do something like this in a few spots. Before I replace my fence there are three silver maples that have to go. Their roots are pushing up on the bottom of my fence.

Yeah, but they’ll also  still be making them in 2030

Chain link is just as pretty from behind a screened Matt and a whole lot more durable. Good work though. We certainly have some real concerns of a couple fences falling over. We may have to employ that idea.

Thanks. The fence was so decrepit that some wind blew it over. Those buttresses cost about $80 and two hours of work.

And this costs about 99% less.

Can I order one and send you the bill?

That project was about $80 and two hours of effort. Very high ROI.

It’s a plastic sun screen fabric that the neighbor installed for privacy. It give a nice look. I just slapped the buttresses up overtop.

It’s super-easy. And the concrete footings are small enough that they’ll not be difficult to remove in ten years.

Ah, makes more sense. But it looks good, and *not* plastic-y, at least in your pix.

I think it looks really good. The fence is so UV-bedraggled that it's literally about the consistency of balsa wood. But having that stretch replaced by the reputable fence outfit would cost about three grand. So the ten-year buttress plan is sounding good.

I’ve replaced some fence sections that looked about like yours, but would crumble when touched. I think the lichen covering them provided as much structural stability as the remaining wood did.

The buttress plan seems like an excellent work-around!
